October 28, 2020

University of Alabama

The College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama (UA) announces an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Center for Youth Development and Intervention (“the CYDI”). This position will be academically housed within the Department of Psychology or in the Department of Communicative Disorders.

We seek a research-focused applied scientist with expertise in implementation science. The ideal candidate will have an active program of research related to the translation and implementation of interventions and the promise of securing external funding. We want applicants who are enthusiastic about collaborating with researchers from other disciplines and working in multi-disciplinary teams. A doctoral degree in Psychology (Clinical, Developmental, Experimental. Counseling, Educational), Communication Science and Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology, or other relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Public Health) is required.

Under the auspices of the Alabama Life Research Institute, the CYDI is a state-of-the-art research, training, and service facility that brings together investigators from diverse disciplines who share an interest in developmental psychopathology and the translation of evidence-based practices. The primary mission of the Center is to develop translational clinical science that addresses the prevention, remediation, and management of behavioral, emotional, and neurodevelopmental conditions from early childhood through adulthood. Consistent with this mission, the Center has four strategic objectives: (1) facilitate transdisciplinary, collaborative, and cutting edge research related to mental and physical health and well-being; (2) provide a venue for the translation and dissemination of evidence-based approaches to community and school providers; (3) facilitate grant-funded research on intervention and prevention programming; and (4) provide opportunities for student training via direct research engagement, clinical and consultative services, and secondary data analysis.

As an Assistant Professor in the CYDI, the successful candidate will have an active research lab that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will have prior experience with granstmanship and have high potential of securing external research funding. They will be expected to serve as primary advisor to students in their home department’s graduate program as well. Faculty in the CYDI have a reduced teaching load, because of the research focus. However, as an Assistant Professor, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected.

The University of Alabama is located in Tuscaloosa, AL, home of the CrimsonTide football team as well as the historic Bama Theatre, the Paul R. Jones Museum, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, the Tuscaloosa Farmer’s Market, and nearby Kentuck Festival of the Arts and Moundville Archeological Park. The city of Tuscaloosa is very family-friendly and popular with outdoors enthusiasts as it boasts an active concert venue, a popular farmer’s market, the Black Warrior RiverWalk, and many family-focused events throughout the year. The University of Alabama is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, and actively seeks diversity among its employees. Minority and women candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

To apply, candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation. Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. We plan to conduct interviews remotely to limit travel. With the exception of letters of recommendation, all materials should be submitted online at http://facultyjobs.ua.edu/postings/47504.
